Cellulite Treatment Procedures

Cellulite affects 85-98 percent of all post pubescent females and there are several cellulite treatment methods that have been created to get rid of cellulite. Smart lipo or laser lipolysis is the first type of treatment for cellulite. It is different from the traditional liposuction that reduces localized fat deposits but can make cellulite look worse instead of better. The laser assisted smart lipo cellulite treatment method claims that the use of the laser helps tighten the skin thus improving the appearance of cellulite.

Acoustic wave therapy is another cellulite treatment method that applies a sort of cellulite therapy approach to the problem of cellulite. These acoustic waves are applied externally so as to breakup offending connective tissue that causes skin dimpling. This is the same therapy used sometimes to treat kidney stones and other ailments. However, there is no long term data to prove the effectiveness of these cellulite treatment procedures as they are relatively new.
Another treatment for cellulite is cellulite subscision surgery; this method makes use of a v-shaped cutting tool moved under the skin to cut connective tissue that creates dimples. It is the only procedure with positive long term results in getting rid of cellulite.
Nevertheless it is also the most invasive option in the cellulite treatment procedures and is not widely available. This method of treatment of cellulite also has limited amounts of clinical research. Furthermore it does not work well for everyone and cannot be used in all body areas, although it has been used for the treatment of acne scars in the past.
The lower body lift also called a belt lipectomy is another form of cellulite treatment. It is the removal of excess skin with the remaining skin being secured in a new position to lift, tighten and smooth the skin of the abdomen and thighs. This method does not get rid of cellulite but reduces its appearance. It is also a very invasive procedure and carries the most risk as well as leaving significant scarring.
Then there is another procedure used for the treatment of cellulite called fat grafting or fat injections. This is whereby the patient's fat is first harvested via lipo suction then injected into the depressed areas to smooth out the look of the skin. The results of this method of cellulite treatment are not permanent as fat cells can die and be re-absorbed by the body. The success of the fat grafting procedure in getting rid of cellulite depends highly on the surgeon's skill and experience.
Endermologie is another method used in cellulite treatment. It employs a mechanical suction and roller assisted massage device. It is a sort of cellulite therapy that claims to massage away water retention, break up stubborn fat deposits and stretch contracted bands of connective tissue that cause cellulite. This massage method of cellulite treatment is believed to stimulate fibroblasts to produce more collagen, resulting in thickening and strengthening of both dermis and epidermis. The procedure however, only gives short term results.
